Dharma-Burger: Get a mohawk! Meditate! Calculate your new mortgage payments!
So I go online to check the weather. There, on the side of the page, is this ad, which (nearly) inexplicably, is trying to sell new-mortgage-rate calculations by showing a young woman meditating.
What's the connection? Damned if I know.
I do know this: this same series of ads (it's really too bizarre and disjointed to be considered a "campaign") has depicted other activities, but usually those of a more popular (and slightly rebellious) vein: a closeup of someone getting a tattoo; someone's head being shaved into a mohawk...
You can make of that what you will, but it seems to me that -- rightly or wrongly -- the (ahem) unconventional ad-folks behind this ad consider meditation at least as eye-grabbing -- and common -- as tattoos and punk-rock haircuts.
Weird, huh?
And note the drop-down menu. You think this ad plays well to Alabamians? (I realize that Alabama is the default first state, alphabetically speaking.) Or, for that matter, to anyone?
