Just posted a new article for you all: The Owls Are Not What They Seem: The Dharma of Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper.
Just go to TheWorstHorse's homepage, here.
Spider-Man Fairy Tales continues with a retelling of Spider-Man's origin, fusing one of Marvel's most classic stories with a number of popular Japanese ghost stories and legends! After the death of his parents, a young Buddhist monk is taken in by his elderly aunt and uncle and has since enjoyed a peaceful life away from further pain and suffering in a secluded temple. But when an evil "tsuchigumo," or spider spirit, attacks and bites the young boy, he finds he's gained tremendous abilities which he must now use to save his temple from six sinister ghostly invaders who have come for his blood!

Dig the cover. I know I've had moments of zazen like that.
It appears that Buddhism has driven some 88 million online searches in the past 7 days, and some 377 million in the past 30. Somewhere between Scientology and Judaism, in both cases.
Islam is the big winner, but you have to wonder if what's going on in Burma isn't, at least in some small way, a positive thing in that it's making people curious about the Dharma.
No, it’s not some new fast-food sandwich, but it can be every bit as dubious as a Mc-DLT and a super-sized “New Coke.” A “Dharma-Burger” is, actually, any example of Buddhist ideas or imagery in the marketing or production of (usually non-Buddhist) services and consumables.
See, for example, the bottle to the left. It's for a GNC supplement called "Fully Empowered Zen." That's a Dharma-Burger.
But not all Dharma-Burgers are so lame. Some are cool. The Horse likes to talk about those too.
We've named the blog "Dharma-Burger!" because The Worst Horse seems to always be hearing about and covering these increasingly-present types of items. So it was a natural choice for a name, especially as this blog will allow us to cover 'em more easily. (We'll be covering plenty of other short-item-style things here, too.)
Plus, "Dharma-Burger" is just fun to say.
So watch this blog for more examples, as well as other stuff. And if you want to catch up on the Dharma-Burgers we covered before launching this blog, just check the archives, which feature Burgers a-plenty of all kinds, including many sent in by the Horse's readers:
Dharma-Burger, year one archive
Dharma-Burger archive 2007, part one
Dharma-Burger archive 2007, part two
...and here are some commercials we gathered from before the Horse launched.
Consider yourself "fully empowered."
